Cascade LX - Women’s Helmet (2016) $160
*Currently women’s helmets are not required in NC & SC. But Fury recommends them. I may be able to get you a white gently used helmet at a much reduced price. Let me know if you are looking.
Whatever you choose, be sure it has the SEI Certified Label on it. Must meet NOCSAE Standards. This is a recent change in the past few years. These pads provide added protection for the heart. You can find used pads but be warned most will not meet this important requirement.
We will focus on women's sticks because they can be so varied vs the men's sticks. If you have questions on men's sticks please ask.
Again, men and women's sticks can be purchased used at places like we have mentioned. Women's sticks you need to look for some key elements. We'll now cover those elements individually.
Women's Sticks - Step 1
Look for what we call "The Crux" bend at the top of the stick. Hold the stick up and look at it from the side. It should not be flat, those flat sticks are best for elementary to 6th grade players. Anyone older should be moving to a stick with this type of bend. It allows for a deeper high pocket and easier cradling.
Women's Sticks - Step 2
Now we focus on the runner. The runner is the very center track of the stick that runs from top to bottom. Some have no runner (full mesh) and others have runners constructed of different materials, some better than others. Having mesh vs a runner is a personal preference of each athlete. Personally, I prefer the runner. However, not all runners are created equal. See image to left.
Women's Sticks - Costs
New players should not overspend on their first high school stick. New or used sticks can be purchased following the above guidelines. Refer to suggestions above for stores selling used equipment.
Coach Allen's Best Value NEW Women's Stick:
Nike Lunar $130 (this stick can last a player all four years of high school)
Coach Allen's Best Overall NEW Women's Stick:
Any Traditional w/Woven Runner
At one time it was GAIT only with this style. Other manufacturers are now purchasing GAIT's inner stringing and placing GAIT's patented system within their own manufactured heads (STX is now doing that).
Cost of these various sticks: $275+ (again, don't spend this until you know you are ready to dive deep into the game)
NOTE:
You can also have an old head restrung with just about any of the above options. You can even purchase GAIT's inner guts and have them placed with your current stick head. Its recommended to show Coach Allen your current head before moving in this direction. We want to make sure the head is worthy of being restrung. In times past I have sourced and restrung sticks for $40-60 each, but now I can only do that in the off season, due to time constrants.
